Change is as good as a holiday

Feb 20, 2023 | Okonjima Nature Reserve

Okonjima kicked off 2023 with exciting plans for our Bush and Plains Camps after all plans were put on hold for the past 3 years. This year we’ve been very fortunate to bring our concept to fruition.

The renovations emphasise reconnecting with nature and creating an environment where our guests feel more immersed in our environment.

In January, Bush Camp closed for 3 weeks to give our Lodge area some extra TLC, with additions adding to the warm hospitality experience we have become known for in the Namibian tourism industry.

As part of the renovations, an entirely new outside dining area was created for guests to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner, right next to our rejuvenated waterhole. Much thought was given to making the waterhole practical for wildlife and aquatic species and creating the perfect backdrop for birders and guests dining underneath the stars at night. We know it will become a favourite spot for our guests to rediscover their zen and immerse themselves in this safari dream.

February also saw the start of upgrades to Plains Camp. The lodge’s interior has received some cosmetic changes paying homage to our Okonjima family and design elements inspired by our natural surroundings. Creativity has no bounds when your backdrop is mother nature.

With the transformation of the exterior lounge area, guests can now enjoy their sundowners in either our covered area or in the newly built sundowner fireplace overlooking the waterhole that is frequented by wildlife at dusk and dawn.
